857,216. Spits. GRATZER, R. May 8, 1959, [Dec. 16, 1958], No. 40461/58. Class 28(1) A spit, 1 for use in an oven, comprises a spit rod 22 having one end mounted in a bearing 23 detachably secured on one inner wall 10 of the oven while its other end is received in a member 20 keyed on a shaft 17a extending through an aperture 13a of the opposite wall 12, 13 of the oven 'and driven by means 17, e.g. an electric motor, detachably mounted on the outer wall of the oven. As shown, the double oven walls 10, 12; 11, 13 have spaces 14, 15 filled with heat insulating material. The key member 21 secured on sleeve 20 engages, at one end, a groove 17b in the end of shaft 17a and has, at the, other end slots 216 to receive a diametrical pin 22b on a spit rod 22. The other end of rod 22 is detachably supported by a bearing bracket 23 secured to oven wall 10. Poultry holding devices 25 with apertures 25a for skewers and the like can be located where required on rod 22 by screws 26. Alternatively or in addition, pronged devices 27 may be provided.
