Abstract

757,168. Food mixers. HOOVER, Ltd. (Hoover Co.). Sept. 1, 1954, No. 25444/54. Class 86. [Also in Group XVII] Food-mixing apparatus comprises a pair of open-topped vessels 10, 11 mounted one within the other and an electric mixer 14 removably mounted on the outer vessel 11 so as to mix the contents of the inner vessel 10. The inner vessel 10 is rotatably mounted within the vessel 11 by a bearing 24 and the mixer is arranged to act on the contents so as to produce rotation of the vessel 10. The outer vessel 11 has an elongated handle 13 having a socket 50 at its end in which a supporting post 62 of the mixer 14 is mounted. The mixer 14 comprises shafts 61 carrying mixing blades 64 rotated in opposite directions in overlapping orbits. When the mixer 14 is not in position a pivoted latch 40 engages the inner vessel 10 and prevents relative rotation between the vessels. One end of the latch 40 is connected by a rod 35 to a spring-pressed plunger 33. When the post 62 of the mixer 14 is inserted it engages the end of the plunger 33 and causes disengagement of the latch 40. Manual release of the latch 40 is effected by movement of a member 53 secured to the plunger 33. The inner vessel 10 is also provided with a handle 12, and the vessels may be used without the mixer as a double boiler on a cooking range. In a modification an electric mixer 92 has a pivoted post 94 which directly engages one arm 84 of a pivoted bell-crank lever thereby causing disengagement of the other arm from the rim of the inner vessel.
