Abstract
739,533. Mixing appliances. BANOWITZ, B. B. March 31, 1954 [April 2, 1953], No. 9420/54. Class 86. [Also in Group XVII] A cooking-vessel lid adapted to fit vessels of differing diameters (see Group XVII) may be fitted with a stirrer comprising a shaft 23, Fig. 1, extending through the lid 11 and carrying an operating handle 26, and having at its opposite end an agitator member 29, the shaft 23 being axially slidable and the agitator 29 radially adjustable so that the stirrer may be used in vessels of differing depths and diameters. As shown, the shaft 23 has a tubular fastener 30 attached to its bottom end with a transverse aperture for slidably receiving the agitator 29 and the agitator is securable in any desired radial position by tightening the fastener 30 so that the agitator 29 is held frictionally by the end of the shaft 23. The shaft 23 is provided with a support 33, Fig. 4, comprising an upright bearing portion 34 and a protective flange 37 parallel to the lid for protecting the hand of the user. The support and the stirrer are detachable from and mountable on either side of the lid, and the flange 37 may be provided with pegs 38 to seat in holes 39 in the lid 11 to prevent rotation of the shaft support 33.
