779,366. Magnetic recording transducers. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION. Dec. 20, 1954 [Dec. 28, 1953], No. 36727/54. Class 40 (2). A magnetic recording transducer core comprises a magnetizable body 10 having upper and lower legs 15, 20 integrally connected together to define therebetween an open-ended slot having a coil-receiving portion wide 12, a first normally narrow slit portion 16 forming the open end, and a second narrow slit portion 18 spaced from the open end and serving further to separate the legs to facilitate bending of one leg 20 to permit insertion of a coil 13 into the wide slot portion 12 through the first slit portion 16. For such insertion the leg 20 is bent out of the plane of the core, preferably within the limits of section A which has a greater cross-external area and provides a greater bending radius than those of section B thereby minimizing increase of reluctance due to the bending. Slit portion 16 forms the high reluctance gap which after bending back the leg 20 may be filled with a high reluctance material such as silver solder. The body 10 is laminated.
