779,227. Driving piles. DESVAUX, J. and BERTHET, F. Oct. 26, 1955 [Oct. 28, 1954], No. 30636/55. Class 68 (2). In apparatus for driving and extracting piles by utilizing the vertical components of the centrifugal forces of flywheels having out of balance weights, the device carrying the flywheels being rigidly fixed to the pile, two or more pairs of out of balance flywheels are provided, the pairs varying, or being variable, from other pairs in the direction of rotation, the displacement of the out of balance weight and/or the mass of the said weights. Fig. 4 shows in plan, two pairs 1, 2 and 8, 9 of out of balance flywheels, and by regulation of the out of balance weights and direction of rotations, the horizontal and vertical components of the centrifugal forces may be added together or subtracted according to the needs of the work in hand. When the pile is being driven horizontally, the normal axial action of gravity is replaced by a jack mounted elastically on the pile. Specification 687,603 is referred to.
