Abstract
778,898. Fixed resistors. PAINTON & CO., Ltd., and BENHAM, C. M. Nov. 14, 1955, No. 32527/55. Addition to 626,128. Class 37. A power-dissipating resistor comprises a film of conductive resistive material deposited on a ceramic core which has a high thermal conductivity (k) not less than 0.025 c.g.s. units. The ceramic core may be made of the material having the Registered Trade Mark " Sintox " and the resistive film may be of carbon or a metallic material or oxide such as tin oxide. Part of the film may be removed to adjust the value of the resistor to a desired value leaving for example a meandering or helical ribbon of resistive material between its end leads. This may be done by grinding or scribing or where a metallic film is used by a photo-etching process such as described in Specification 689,795. A considerable proportion of the heat generated in the resistive element is conducted via the ceramic core and dissipated via the end leads, cooling may be facilitated' by passing an air stream through the bore of the core.
