Abstract

778,382. Relief printing and embossing. CHAMBON, Ltd. July 9, 1953 [Dec. 18, 1952], No. 19139/53. Class 100(2) A process for the relief printing of a finely embossed material, e.g. aluminium or aluminium alloy foil with a superficial silklike embossed surface comprises passing the embossed material between two rollers 4, 3, the first (4) of which bears in relief at least part of the matter to be printed on the material M with the result that the embossment is flattened out, in the areas of the material to be printed, the material then passing between the first roller 4 and a third roller 5 which has a resilient surface. allowing the flattened areas to be raised in relief (see Figs. 6, 7). The material then passes between the first roller 4 and an inking roller 6 which inks the flattened surfaces 10 of the raised parts. The roller 3 and the raised surfaces of the roller 4 are polished. More than one inking cylinder may be used, each for a different colour and adapted to print only preselected areas of the material. The material may receive its initial fine embossment from rollers 1, 2. More than one such printing apparatus may be provided each effecting only a part of the printing.
