Abstract
The invention comprises compounds of the formula <FORM:0777994/IV(b)/1> (wherein A and B are benzene nuclei at least one of which is substituted with a methoxy group) and their hydrochlorides; and the preparation thereof by heating the appropriate secondary amine with a compound C5H10N-CH2CH2-X in the absence of solvents and in the presence of an acid-fixing agent (e.g. magnesium oxide) or by heating piperidine with a compound <FORM:0777994/IV(b)/2> under similar conditions to those used in the first method (X being an inorganic acid radical, preferably a halide, or a p-toluene-sulphonate group), followed in each case, if desired, by conversion of the product to its hydrochloride by passing dry HCl into a solution of the base in an organic solvent. In examples: (1) 4-methoxy - dibenzylamine and N - b - chloro - ethyl - piperidine give N - b - (4 - methoxy - dibenzylamino) - ethylpiperidine, the dihydrochloride of which is also prepared; (2) di-(p-methoxy - benzyl) - amine and N - b - chloro - ethylpiperidine give N-b -di-(p-methoxy-benzyl)-amino-ethylpiperidine, the dihydrochloride of which is also prepared. Reference is also made to the preparation of these products by the second method outlined above. Specification 659,730 is referred to.
