Abstract
777,750. Oil-break switches; actuation of switches. GRATZMULLER, J. L. Jan. 13, 1955 [Jan. 15, 1954], No.. 1113/55. Class 38(5) . The live part of a suspended circuitbreaker having a movable contact 8 actuated by oil through a spring-biased integral piston 50. is insulated from the earthed control point by the insulating oil feed pipe 13. part of which is contained in an instilator 14, and the column of oil therein. The oil feed from the oleo-pneumatic accumulator 12 is controlled by a three-way cock 15 by a contact-making and a contactbreaking electromagnet 16. 17, respectively; Fig. 3. oil being evacuated into a container 18 to open the breaker, and a manometer 19 indicating the position of the breaker contact 8. In another embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown) oil is evacuated into an intermediate tank open to atmosphere, the oil being then returned to the container by a separate insulating pipe, while in yet another embodiment (Fig. 3) oil is returned from an intermediate tank 22 to the container 18 through an annular passage 24 between feed pipe 13 and insulator 14 and pipes 26, 27, a valve having a spring- pressed diaphragm 34 and open to atmosphere at 32 ensuring a sufficient level of oil in passage 24. An indication of the position of the movable contact is given by two lamps 42, 43, the circuit of the former being completed by contact 39 carried by a spring-biased piston 36 responsive to the oil pressure in duct 13 when the pressure is higher than-that required for the contact-making stroke of piston 50, and the circuit of lamp 43 being completed when the pressure is lower.
