Abstract
777,652. Centrifugal compressors. MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURG - NURNBERG AKT.-GES. July 4, 1955 [July 23, 1954], No. 19300/55. Class 110 (1). A radial-flow compressor comprises a bladeless annular space arranged concentrically around the rotor, and at least one spiral receiver for the compressed medium, the annular space tapering radially to provide one substantially uniform distribution of velocity over the extent of the exit from the annular space. The impeller 1 has radial blades 2 and is followed by an annular space 14 having a radial extent equal to about one-tenth of the impeller diameter and an exit width 16 which is about 10-30 per cent less than the impeller exit width 17. The annular space 14 discharges into spiral receivers 8, 9, 10 which in turn discharge into a common receiver 13. The wall 15 of space 14 is in alignment with the adjacent surface of the impeller back-plate and is tangential to the substantially elliptical crosssection of each spiral receiver so that a swirl is imparted to the fluid as indicated by the arrows in Fig. 3. Alternatively, the space 14 may be centrally disposed relative to the said cross-section. The spiral form of the receivers 8, 9, 10 is interrupted by straight and continuously windening parts 11.
