Abstract
In the production of pressed tablets containing a proportion of wax (or other substance of a waxy nature) of the order of 25 per cent. by weight, the waxy substance is melted or dissolved and then absorbed in an absorbent solid. The tendency of the waxy substance to clog the tablet-making machine is thus reduced. The waxy substance may be a fatty alcohol or a fatty alcohol ester, such as spermaceti. The absorbent solid may serve only as a carrier for the waxy substance and may be powdered chalk, koilin or fuller's earth. Alternatively the absorbent solid may serve an additional purpose and may be a laxative, e.g. a cellulose derivative such as methyl cellulose, magnesium carbonate, powdered senna, powdered cascara or magnesium sulphate. In this application magnesium hydroxide and lactose may also be added, and the mixture may then be granulated, e.g. with the aid of acacia solution, and sieved. The granules may then be dried, disintegrants and lubricants may be added and finally the mixture is pressed in a tablet-producing machine. The Provisional Specification mentions phenolphthalein as an optional constituuent of the compositions.ALSO:In the production of pressed tablets containing a proportion of wax (or other substance of a waxy nature) of the order of 25 per cent by weight, the waxy substance is melted or dissolved and then absorbed in an absorbent solid.
