Abstract
776,831. Hedge or like clippers. SMITH, C. A. March 11, 1955 [March 12, 1954], No. 7321/54. Class 131. A hedge or like clipper comprises a pair of parallel, connected, outer toothed blades and an inner toothed blade reciprocated relatively to each other, the teeth of the inner cutter having two cutting edges on the same surface of the blade and adjacent teeth having the cutting edges on opposite surfaces. As shown, the cutting edges of the teeth 9 of the inner blade 2 co-operate with teeth 8, 8<SP>1</SP> of stationary blades 1, 1<SP>1</SP> which are welded together at their apices and have cutting edges 10, 10<SP>1</SP> and blunt edges 11, 11<SP>1</SP>. Studs limit the reciprocation of the blade 2 which is imparted to the tang 12 and may be derived from a gear box having a large hand-operated gear or from pivoted handles having a toggle linkage. In a modification opposite teeth of the outer blade are integral at their tips the blade being formed by a single folded plate, and in a further modification teeth are provided along both edges of the clipper.
