Abstract

776,627. Hinges. OFFICINE LEONARDO. Feb. 28, 1955 [March 13, 1954], No. 5917/55. Class 65 (2). [Also in Group XX] A hinge connecting the side member 2 to the front 1 of a spectacle frame is provided with resilient means urging the side member to a predetermined open position, while permitting the side member to be opened outwardly of said position. In Fig. 1 the hinge comprises members 3 and 4 secured to the front and side respectively and united by a pivot 5. Member 3 is provided with notches 8 and 10, a cam surface 9 separating the notches, and a cam surface 11 beyond notch 10. Member 4 is provided with a ball 12 biased by a spring 13 towards member 3. The arrangement is such that the ball seats in the notches to hold the side member in the closed and normally open positions respectively, and also co-operates with the cam surfaces to bias the side member towards the closed position. Alternatively, the surface between the notches may have no cam effect, and the ball and spring may be replaced by a single spring member. In a further modification, Fig. 4, member 3 is pivotally connected to the front by means of a screw 15 which enters a screwed bush 16 and is held in adjusted position by means of a grub screw 17. Alternatively, bush 16 is split and is adapted to be contracted by means of a screw for holding screw 15 in adjusted position.
