776,617. Vacuum apparatus for raising liquids. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. Oct. 24, 1955 [Oct. 22, 1954], No. 30558/54. Class 102(2). [Also in Group XVIII] A sample of radio-active liquid is obtained by operating a vacuum lift to flush about 300 c.c. of the liquid from a pipe 65 to a pipe 66 via a reservoir 67 and then advancing a rubber-capped evacuated bottle 74 on to a hypodermic-type needle 62 in communication with the reservoir. The capacities of the latter and the bottle may be 2 c.c. and 5 c.c., respectively, so that the reservoir and the needle are flushed with air after the sample has passed into the bottle. Movements of the bottle are remotely controlled by a tong assembly and are viewed through a periscope.
