Abstract
1,115,256. Tapping bottles; caps for bottles. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. 16 Jan., 1967 [28 Jan., 1966], No. 2217/67. Heading B8T. [Also in Divisions B4 and F2] A device for transferring radio-active &c. liquid between two sealed bottles comprises a block 2, Fig. 1, formed with a pipe 6 connected to two hollow piercing needles 8, Fig. 3, each within a telescopic tubular sheath 14, 16 closed at its outer end by a self-sealing pierceable diaphragm 30. The pipe 6 is connected through a valve 10 to a vacuum source 11, through a valve 12 to a rinsing circuit 13, and through a valve (not shown) to atmosphere. Bottles 38, Fig. 2, closed by self-sealing pierceable diaphragms 54 are mounted in a shielding support spaced apart by the distance between the needles 8. The block 2 is lowered by remote control so that caps 26, Fig. 3, engage the necks of the bottles 38 and the telescopic sheaths 14, 16 are collapsed against spring bias, the needles 8 piercing first the diaphragms 30 and then the bottle-closing diaphragms 54. Next the pipe 6 is connected to vacuum, and liquid siphons from one bottle 38 to the other. On completion of liquid transfer, a small amount of decontaminating rinse is admitted through the valve 13 and the block 2 is raised, the needles 8 reentering the diaphragms 30. Additional decontaminating rinses may be effected if required. Caps for bottles.-Each bottle 38, Fig. 2, has a neck 43 formed with pins 50 engaged by bayonet slots in a sleeve 48 carrying a metal ring 52 mounting the diaphragm 54. The latter comprises a self-sealing latex &c. layer 54a and a foil layer 54b resistant to radiation and corrosion.
