Abstract

984,800. Syringes. C. H. HAMILTON. July 12, 1962 [May 8, 1962], No. 26816/62. Heading F1R. A syringe of small capacity comprises a hollow needle 12 secured to a graduated transparent body 28, e.g. of glass, and a plunger 64 slidable within the needle and the body and guided by a member slidable within the body 28 so as to indicate the position of the plunger. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, the plunger is guided by a tube 50 fixed within body 28 and a tube 56 slidable within body 28 and over tube 50. An operating knob 58 is coupled to tube 56 and plunger 64. In another embodiment fixed guide tube 50 is omitted. A stuffing box 24 containing a compressed seal 70, e.g. of P.T.F.E., surrounds the plunger. A stop 40 is provided inside body 28. The plunger and needle are of different materials, e.g. tungsten and stainless steel, or platinum-ruthenium alloy and stainless steel.
