Abstract

The retention of pleats in cellulosic fabrics is improved by treating the fabrics with a solution of a precondensate of a thermo-setting resin containing a catalyst and drying it prior to the mechanical pleating or folding operation, and then heating the fabric to condense the resin fully, and finally washing the fabric with mechanical agitation without lengthwise or lateral tension. In the example the fabric treated is composed of cotton, the resin is an alkylated methylol melamine and the washing treatment with agitation is effected at 90C DEG .
