Abstract
776,031. Core-making machines. STANTON IRONWORKS CO., Ltd. Dec. 14, 1955 [March 23, 1955], No. 8479/55. Class 83 (1). [Also in Group XXX] Core-blowing apparatus comprises a vessel from which sand is driven in a stream of air into a core-box beneath, and one or more rotary stirrers on horizontal rotary shafts which each pass completely across the vessel, so that substantially all the sand in the vessel is agitated by the stirrers. Core supports 2 are fed successively from a stack 4 on to a platform 6, which lifts them into register with a core box 8 having annular spaces 10, 12 defining tubular cores. Sand from a hopper 14 having rotary stirrers 33, 35 flows into a vessel 16 having rotary stirrers 42, 44 and is blown therefrom, by air supplied through a port 56, into the spaces 10, 12. Air is exhausted from the vessel 16, the core-support and cores lowered, and the core support pushed sideways on to a conveyer by the next following core support. The sand enters the moulding spaces through ports 72, and the spaces are vented by vents 74 and ports 76. Vibrators 78 assist stripping. A valve 50 between the hopper and the vessel is operated by a piston 52. In a cylindrical vessel each stirrer may be in the form of half hoops fixed to the shaft.
