776,009. Catafalque; load handling apparatus. HEAP BROS. (BURNLEY), Ltd., and HEAP, D. Oct. 18, 1955 [Nov. 3, 1954], No. 31747/54. Classes 78 (2) and 78 (3). A catafalque for use in a crematorium comprises a horizontal coffin support 21 mounted in frame 10 and cylindrical raising means 17 located within sleeve 16 whereby the coffin support may be given an up or down movement so that the coffin may be disposed at the required height. As shown, coffin support 21 carries rollers 23 and is secured to and upon tubular member 17 to slide vertically within sleeve 16 fixed in the wheeled frame 10, the movement being provided manually by winding up rope 34 upon drum 32, a pawl and ratchet preventing reverse movement of the handle. Alternatively, a motor may be provided 'with or without the handle, or an hydraulic ram may be used.
