Abstract

1,038,106. Slings. Y. M. MACHUE. May 2, 1963 [May 2, 1962 (2); April 29, 1963], No. 17453/63. Heading B8H. [Also in Division A5] A device for raising, lowering and transporting injured people comprises laths 40-45 attached to straps 96 supported by rod 66 which is vertically adjustably mounted on rods 84 of trestles 62, and stretcher 110 (Fig. 2, not shown). In use the laths 40-45 are slid under the patient and connected to rod 66 by straps 96, the rod 66 is raised, the stretcher 110 placed beneath the patient and the rod 66 is then lowered to rest the patient on the stretcher 110. The laths 40-45 are cambered in crosssection and special laths may be clipped on to the handles of the stretcher when dealing with very tall patients. The straps 96 are adjustable in length. The stretcher handles may be retractable. On the bottom surface of the stretcher there may be means for pivotably mounting the stretcher to the rod 66 (Fig. 4, not shown) to enable artificial respiration to be applied to the patient or apertures through which a cable for bearing the stretcher is passed. The stretcher is formed from two panels articulated to one another by a 180- degree hinge, the panels when closed form a box for holding all the other components of the device.
