A spinning frame for hard fibres comprises a faller bed, a condenser and die whose common axis lies on or near the plane of the faller bed, haul pulleys for pulling the yarn through the die, a second conductor for gradually changing the direction of the yarn emerging from the haul pulleys, and a system for winding the yarn when spun. As shown, the plane of the faller bed 1 is horizontal, and the sliver bearing the faller bed 1 passes substantially without deviation through a condenser 2 and die 3, through a bearing 6 for a gear box 7 to hand pulleys 8 whose effective axis is in line with the path of the sliver from the faller bed 1. After twist has been inserted by the haul pulleys 8 the yarn is fed through an eyelet 9 and over a conductor which may be a curved trough 10 of smooth interior or a rotatable wheel having a channeled rim, to a flyer arm 14 whose axis is vertical. It is stated that the invention may be applied to spinning frames having pinned chains or porcupine rollers instead of the faller bed 1. The Provisional Specification describes a construction having the haul pulleys 8 mounted between the conductor 10 and the flyer 14, and preferably having their effective axis parallel to the axis of the flyer.
