Abstract

775,587. Magnifying-lenses. OTT, H., [trading as OTT, A. [Firm of] ]. Oct. 12, 1954 [Oct. 16, 1953], No. 29416/54. Class 97(1) The upper end portion of a cylindrical rod type magnifier has two tapered segments, the angle of taper of the upper being less than that of the lower end, light passing through the upper being reflected by the lower towards the object to be magnified. As shown, the object 14 is viewed through convex spherical surface 12 and light passing through conical surfaces 15 and 18 is totally internally reflected at conical surfaces 16 and 19. In another form, the two tapered segments may be formed as a single continuously curved surface. The magnifier is used particularly for following a curve as in planimeters or pantographs and it may be made of a transparent plastic such as "Plexiglass" (Registered Trade Mark).
