Abstract

774,941. Diesel engines. DAIMLER-BENZ AKT.-GES. March 28, 1955 [March 27, 1954], No. 8984/55. Class 7 (3). The fuel is sprayed partly in the direction in which the whirling air is flowing and while still substantially in the liquid state against a part of the wall of the turbulence chamber adjacent the nozzle preferably making a small angle with the wall and partly substantially diametrically across the chamber and transversely or obliquely in relation to the air flow towards the more remote part of the wall. As shown a substantial part of the fuel is injected in a stream 18 in the direction of flow of the air in the chamber 15. The fuel covers the wall of the chamber in a thin layer. The chamber is liquid cooled. If desired an insert completely or partially insulated from the wall may be provided at the point where the fuel is sprayed. If desired provision may be made for heating the insert for example by an electrically heated coil. The nozzle is designed to deliver one or more additional streams through one or more further injection apertures one such stream being shown at 20. The two streams 18, 20 may be combined to form a single wide flat stream or jet by appropriate design of the nozzle. Appropriate positions for the inlet and exhaust valves are indicated by the axes 14.
