Abstract
774,454. Blast nozzles. HUTTENWERK OBERHAUSEN AKT.-GES. May 27, 1955 [May 28, 1954], No. 15420/55. Class 51 (1). A metal refining blast nozzle comprises an outer shell 1 closed at its respective ends by a perforated plate 6 and a blast header 4. The perforations 13 in plate 6 serve as blast outlet openings, whilst the header 4 distributes blast fed to it from a supply pipe by three pipes 16. The shell 1 is divided internally into a water supply chaniiel 3 and a water return annular channel 19 by nested tubes 7, 8 which, together with an extension 17 of the tube 7, form the blast supply route from header 4 to perforations 13. The blast is conducted from header 4 to the space 9 between tubes 8, 17, through tubes 15, Fig. 3. The space 9 is formed with six radially extending passageways 10 connecting channels 3 and 19 such that water entering the nozzle through tube 8 may leave through outlet 5. For more efficient cooling the interior of shell 1 near the nozzle mouth is roughened and provided with corrugations and the exterior of the shell is formed with grooved ribs 21. In order that the outgoing hot water may heat the incoming blast, copper is packed in tubes 7, 8, between tubes 15 and 7. That part of tubes 7, 8 enclosing tubes 15 may be dispensed with or the tubes 15 may be omitted, the blast in this case passing from header 4 to space 9 through the space between tubes 7, 8. Instead of water, any suitable cooling agent may be used.
