Abstract

774,241. Door checks; hinges. THUNE,T. April 25, 1955 [June 18, 1954], No. 11815/55. Classes 65 (1) and 65. (2). [Also in Group XXXII] A spring door-closing device with a liquid check of the oscillating vane-type is arranged in the form of a hinge, comprising separate axially - arranged casings 8, 5 for the spring and the check chamber respectively, with a spindle 13 passing axially through the casings and rotatable relatively to the check casing, each casing having a fixing plate for attachment to the door or frame. In the form shown, the upper end of the spring casing 8 is closed by a nut 9 and nut lock 10, in which the spindle 13 is non-rotatably fixed, and its lower end fits over a cup member 7 welded in the upper end of the check casing 5. The spring 11 is attached to the nut 9, which may have several holes to allow adjustment of the spring, and the cup 7. The lower end of the spindle 13 rests in a recess in a cap 6 screwed into the lower end of the check casing 5, and the spindle has, adjacent to the closure members 6, 7, flanges between which is mounted a vane 23 hinged to the spindle and inclined to the radial plane so as to yield to allow passage of liquid in one direction but not in the other. A radial wall 21 fixed to the casing 5 is in sliding contact with the spindle and the flanges 19, 20. Small apertures 28 in the flange 20 allow restricted flow of liquid past the vane by way of the space below this flange when the door is closing. In a modification, the vane 23 is fixed radially to the spindle, and the vane and the fixed wall 21 have passages through them closed by leafsprings to allow flow in one direction only.
