[Class 45] [Also in Group XXV] In a gate assembly comprising fixed and movable elements, Fig. 1, the movable element includes horizontal members 10, of channel section, connected by vertical palings 11 of timber or other material, while, the fixed element includes a vertical plate 14, secured to a post 12, wall &c., and carries horizontal channel members 13, through the flanges of which members extends a vertical hinge pin 16. The hinge pin also passes through bearing tubes 20 secured to the movable members 10 and is secured against rotation by a lateral extension 18 bolted to the upper fixed member 13. The gate is urged to the closed position by a spring 21 anchored at its lower end by an adjustment ring 22 on the hinge pin. In a modification, Fig. 5, in which the hinge pin is secured to and rotates with the gate, the bearing tubes 24 are welded to the fixed channels 13, and the hinge pin passes through extensions 23 welded to the flanges of the movable channels 10 and is secured thereto by its lateral extension 18 and a bolt 9. In this case, the lower end of the spring 21 is anchored to the lower fixed channel 13. The movable channels are arrested in the closed position of the gate by their lapping (Fig. 1) or abutting (Fig. 5) engagement with the fixed channels, or by a stop on the second gate post 8.
