A sliver failure detection device for effecting automatic stoppage of a drawing frame or other textile machine on cessation of the feed of sliver from a sliver roll 2 wound on an arbor or centre member 1 and resting on a cradle constituted by a pair of parallel rollers 4 and 5, incorporates an electrical conductor 3 so mounted on the periphery of the arbor 1 that when the arbor contacts the roll-supporting rollers an electrical circuit is completed. In the embodiment shown, rollers 4 and 5 are connected in an electric circuit by means of brushes and the conductor 3 completes the circuit on exhaustion of the sliver on the arbor 1.
