773,008. Booms. SMALLPEICE. C. D. P. Oct. 17, 1955 [June 10. 1955]. No. 16685/55. Class 115. A fitting 17 at the end of a boom 11 has a spherical type joint 18 for releasable engagement with a coacting element 19 fast with the mast 13 and a means for attaching the sail to the boom, the joint and sail-attachment means being operable to their releasing positions by the action of a single latch or of a latch and withdrawable plunger respectively. An eye 32 fast with the sail is held in jaws 31, 31a on the fitting 17 by a spring-loaded plunger 25 which has an abutment 29 bearing on a latch plate 22 for urging the nose 30 of the latter into a position to obstruct withdrawal of the cup 18 from the ball 19. A pull on a lanyard 34 attached to the latch plate will move the latter to release the ball 19 and the eye 32.
