Abstract

772,748. Ships' derricks. MEGE, P. A. Sept. 17, 1954 [Sept. 17, 1953], No. 27044/54. Class 78 (4). Slewing mechanism for a derrick 1 comprises a rigid bracket 29 which is pivoted to the mast 3 at 32, is connected to the free end of the derrick by the luffing cable 4 and is moved about pivots 32 by cables 12. In a modification (Figs. 5, 6, not shown) the mast is selfsupporting and is composed of a pair of upwardly converging side members which, at their upper ends support a pair of brackets 29 situated on opposite sides of the mast structure. In a further modification (not shown), the lower end of the mast is secured to a movable support, e.g. a hatchway cover, slidable along the hatchway covering.
