Class 61 Tensioning means for a spring coiled round and anchored to a spindle a, e.g. the spindle by which the segmental nut of a releasable screw vice is swung about its fulcrum out of engagement with the operating screw, comprises a disc d rotatively mounted on the spindle, the disc having spaced radial notches d' around its peri- .phery and having the free end attached to it as by a pin e and means being provided for holding the disc against rotation on the spindle after adjustment. As shown the spindle a is passed through a depending lug c fixed to the sliding jaw g of the vice, the spindle being slotted at a<SP>3</SP> to engage a flat bar h whereby the nut of the vice is swung, the spring normally holding the nut in engagement with the vice screw. A set screw f passed through the lug c can be engaged in any one of the notches in the disc. The spring is tensioned by revolving. the disc d on the spindle a with the screw f withdrawn.
