Abstract

723,616. Strapping bales &e. PACKERS SUPPLY CO., Ltd. Nov. 27, 1953. [Dec. 9, 1952 ; Dec. 9, 1952] Nos. 31206/52 and 31207/52 Class 45. A tool for tensioning a band of strapping or wire comprises a support 1 carrying a pair of independently movable gripping members 19, 21 so arranged that when the member 21 is rotated clockwise about a pivot 20 on the member 19 their gripping surfaces 15, 23 engage the band 29 and thereafter the member 19 is moved by and with the member 21 to rotate about a pivot 16 on the support so that the band is freely advanced through a one-way gripping device also mounted on the support. The oneway gripping device comprises a bar 10 pivoted on the support and urged by a spring 13 so that gripping surface 11 tends to engage the gripping surface 9 of a stud 8 fixed to the support. The member 21 may be rotated anti-clockwise to interlock with the bar 10 so that the gripping surfaces are spaced apart and disengaged. The band passes about a body 31 and the free end of the band is retained by a slot 7 in a lateral extension 2 of the support. The overlapping parts of the band are joined by a sealing clip which is inserted in a slot 5 of the extension.
