Abstract

171,435. Holder, E. R., and Morris, B. O. July 13, 1920. Vices.-A vice comprises a non- rotatable plain faced jaw co-operating with a turret-head of known kind having a number of gripping- f a c e s of different formations, mounted on a screw traversed slide, means being provided for frictionally locking the turret-head in position. In a modification the plain faced jaw may be mounted on the slide and the turret-head relatively fixed. A rectangular turret-head c, provided witn flat, V-sectioned, or .other gripping-faces c<1>, c<6> &c. on its sides, is rotatably carried by a screw-traversed slide b by means of a threaded pivot pin d engaging a coned nut e seated in a corresponding recess in the crown of the head, whereby, by rotating the pin d by a wrench engaging its hexagonal head f, the turret-head may be released or locked in a de. sired position. In a modified form of locking device the pivot pin is fixed to the slide, the coned clamping-member slides vertically thereon and is locked by a nut operated from above.
