Abstract

772,671. Annealing; alloys. FENN, L. E July 12, 1954 [July 10, 1953], No. 20360/54. Classes 72 and 82(1) [Also in Group XI] A cigarette lighter heating element (see Group XI) comprises a metal alloy ribbon of an approximate composition 3¢ to 6 per cent aluminium, 1 to 3 per cent cobalt, 20 to 25 per cent chromium and the balance iron and is wound into a close, flat spiral coil 20a which is placed in a drawn sheet. metal retaining ring 21 of channel section or, Fig. 5 (not shown), between lugs formed on a non-metallic or ceramic member. The coil 20a is then annealed at 1500‹F. by being passed through the coil of a high frequency unit, Fig. 6 (not shown), or, Fig. 8 (not shown), an electric furnace and thereafter the oxidizing process is effected by connecting the coil to a battery 48, Fig. 9, through a rheostat or, Fig. 7 (not shown) a number of resistors: and a sliding contact and subjecting the coil to different voltages for different timeintervals.
