303,034. Johnson, J. Y., (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). June 25, 1927. Coating.-In a process of coating iron, steel, or iron alloys with chromium or cobalt, the iron &c. is coated with nickel, chromium or cobalt between the coating metal and the iron &c. as a diffusing agent, and the diffusion is effected in an inert atmosphere such as hydrogen or in vacuo at temperatures at which the diffusing metal does not melt. In an example, iron is coated with a thin deposit of metal, plated with chromium, and heated at a temperature of 1100-1300‹ C. for several hours in an atmosphere of pure hydrogen.
