Coating.-In a method of producing protective and resistant coatings on metals such as iron, steel &c., the metal is coated, preferably by electrodeposition, with another metal such as chromium or nickel and the plated metal is immersed in a lead bath, maintained at a temperature of 800‹ C. until it reaches the temperature of the bath for the purpose of eliminating pin-holes &c. The film or coating of lead may be removed from the coated plate by abrasion as e.g. by brushing or by treatment with acid or by both methods.
