Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a semiprocessed silicon steel plate with a fine surface, low iron loss and high permeability by thoroughly preventing the contact of oxygen with metal when a hot coil of a nonoriented silicon steel plate contg. Sb or Sn is annealed in a bell. CONSTITUTION:The black skin of a coil of a hot rolled nonoriented silicon steel plate contg. Si and Al as well as Sb or Sn for preventing nitriding in bell annealing is removed by shot blasting or pickling. Prior to bell annealing the internal gas of a bell is thoroughly replaced with N2, Ar or the like, and the coil is heated, soaked and cooled in the bell. The bell is then dismantled after cooling the coil to below a temp. at which an internal oxide layer composed chiefly of SiO2, Al2O3 and FeO is not formed. As an annealing gas used during the cooling, N2 Ar or the like is used adjantageously after making the O2 content as low as possible to prevent the oxidation of Si and Al in the steel plate.
