Abstract

772,665. Winding fabric. ADVANCE LINEN SERVICES, Ltd. April 22, 1955 [Jan. 26, 1954], No. 2388/54. Class 42 (2). [Also in Group XVI] Apparatus for winding lengths of sheet material (e.g. towelling) into compact rolls comprises a series of rollers for guiding the material to the winding mechanism including one, 14, which is concave to form slackness at the centre of the material to allow the longitudinal edges to be controlled, roller 14 having a disc plate 17 mounted at each end to confine the edges of the material. As shown, towelling 13 is drawn from a tray beneath the machine, over concave guide rollers 11, 14 and over further guide rollers 18, 19, 22 and is wound into a roll on a loading roller 20 by a driving roller 6. As winding proceeds, roller 20 rises in slots 21 and is kept in contact with roller 6 by spring-pressed arms. The towelling is tensioned by the weight of roller 14 which is carried on pivoted arms 15. Rollers 22 are carried on a pivoted gate 23 which is spring- loaded towards the broken-line position and is held in the operative position by a catch 24.
