Abstract

772,546. Water-tube steam boilers. ROSSI, G. Oct. 28, 1954 [Oct. 29, 1953], No. 31118/54. Class 123(2) A water-tube steam boiler has a combustion chamber A with walls and roof formed of contacting water-tubes 1 which extend from lower headers 2 to tubular members 4 of an upper steam and water collector which consists of two side-by-side groups of three horizontally-disposed tubular members 4, 5, 5 arranged at the apices of a triangle and interconnected by short tubes 6, the dimensions of the members and tubes being such that the area of evaporating surface remains constant in spite of variation in water level, the two groups being connected by cross-tubes 18. A row of downcomer tubes 7 is disposed outside each wall of the chamber A, the downcomers being connected between the lower members 5 and the headers 2. The boiler casing, consisting of double metal walls with the interspace filled with insulating material, is divided into a lower part B and an upper cover part C through the front end of which the members 5 project to permit attachment of accessories such as pressure and level indicating gauges. Fuel and air are injected into the chamber A from burners located in an opening 11 in the front wall of the casing part B, the combustion gases circulating in the chamber A and discharging through an opening D at the top of the chamber to flow through the space between the casing and the tubes 1 to a rear wall outlet port 10. To provide for ease of transport, the boiler may be made in four sections, the members 4, 5 and headers 2, which are made in half-lengths, being connected on assembly by pipes such as 16, 17.
