In the method of production of a " curled " yarn of the parent Specification, the mutual influence of the gas stream on the yarn is varied e.g. by intermittently interrupting the supply of the gas stream or varying the speed of the yarn, to produce local nubs or variations in denier at regular or irregular intervals along the length of the yarn. As shown in Fig. 2, yarn is fed into a notch 13 in the body of a suction device 10 and is drawn into and carried through an ejector tube 12 by compressed air injected through a jet pipe 11: the emerging yarn is deflected by a plate 12<SP>1</SP> and is withdrawn in a direction perpendicular to the axis of the tubes 11 and 12 through a guide 17: the nubs are stated to be produced as a result of introducing the yarn at one side of the plane perpendicular to the direction of travel of the supplied yarn and lying in the direction of travel of the gas stream and collecting the yarn at the other side of such plane: the frequency of the nubs varies with the angle between the direction of supply and discharge of the yarn. In the apparatus of Fig. 3, yarn from a package 19 is fed via a guide 20 to the notch in a suction device 18 and, on emerging therefrom, impinges against a plate 21 and is guided to a take-up device 24 driven by a motor 25 through a variable speed transmission 26 : a valve 27 in the air supply line and/or the transmission 26 is varied at regular or irregular intervals, the magnitude of such variation being related to the size of the nubs.
