Abstract

1,242,171. Feeding fibres to break-spinning apparatus. TORAY INDUSTRIES Inc. 28 Jan., 1969 [30 Jan., 1968 (2), 4 March, 1968; 11 March, 1968], No. 4761/69. Heading DID. A device for feeding individual fibres to the inside of a rotor 6 of a break spinning apparatus comprises a fibre guide conduit 3, a fibre separating passage 4 and a fibre supply conduit 5, the bundle of fibres supplied from rollers 2a, 2b being drawn into conduit 3 due to the jet stream of air issuing from slit 10 between the conduit 3 and the passage 4 and being shredded into individual fibres at the position adjacent the outlet 13 of the conduit where the air stream speed is maximum. Preferably 2/3<SP>1</SP>#L#1 where 1 equals the average fibre length (see Fig. 2). Also preferably the entrance to conduit 3 is trumpet shaped, Fig. 4, with m#2d and D#3/2<SP>d</SP>. Alternatively the entrance to conduit 3 may be of flattened cross section, e.g. elliptical, to receive a fibre supply having traverse motion. The conduit 3 may spread out towards its outlet (Fig. 9), with an angle of spread Q in the range 5 and 60‹. The cross section of the device may be rectangular. Preferably the inside walls of the conduit 3 and passage 4 are coated with polytetrafluorethylene resin.
