Abstract
771,247. Soldering irons. ADAMSON, R. A. May 31, 1955 [May 28, 1954], No. 15861/54. Class 83 (4). An electric soldering iron bit comprises an outer shell made from a rod of corrosionresistant metal drilled out from one end to form a tubular part in which is located a core of copper or other non-ferrous metal of higher heat conductivity than the shell. In an embodiment, a rod 1, Fig. 1, of pure iron, has a sloping front face 1b forming the soldering tip and the bore therein is plugged with a copper or aluminium rod 2. The shaft 3 of the iron is received in the end of the rod 1, the broken line 4 indicating the outside of the iron body containing the electric heating element. In a further embodiment, a cap 1, Fig. 2, is secured e.g. brazed, to the reduced end 2a of a copper rod 2. The shaft 3 is fixed in a recess in the end of the rod 2. The corrosion resistant metal may be substantially non-magnetizable, e.g. an iron alloy. According to the Provisional Specification the shaft of the iron may be brazed to the bit.
