Abstract
A resinous composition comprises a dispersion of polyvinyl chloride or a copolymer of vinyl chloride or vinylidene chloride in a plasticiser in which from 10 to 60 per cent by weight of the total polymer is dissolved in the plasticiser. The composition may also contian a synthetic rubber, an alkylene polyamine, vulcanizing agents, pigments and stabilizers. The composition may be prepared by dissolving the polymer in the plasticiser at elevated temperature, and dispersing in the solution at atmospheric temperature a further amount of the polymer. The rubber may be a copolymer of butadiene and acrylonitrile or methyl isopropenyl ketone or polychloroprene. Polyamines mentioned are ethylene diamine, diethylene triamine, triethylene tetramine, tetraethylene pentamine, pentaethylene hexamine, hexamethylene tetramine, tripropylene tetramine, guanidine and mixtures. The plasticiser may be dioctyl phthalate, the stabilizer lead phosphate, silicate, or stearate, and the pigment litharge or red iron oxide. The compositions may be used for coating fabrics which can be assembled and cured to form multi-ply belting.
