Abstract

770,506. Valves. FARRIS, V. W. May 12, 1955 [Feb. 7, 1955], No. 13782/55. Class 135. A pinch valve comprises a flexible conduit 15, a pair of jaw members 24, 25 operatively interconnected for simultaneous movement toward and away from each other and engaging the conduit at diametrically opposed points, a unitary valve body surrounding the conduit and jaw members and forming with the exterior of the conduit a space to hold fluid, means such as wedges 16 for forcing the outer ends of the conduit into contact with the adjacent parts of the valve body, and the fluid receiving space surrounding the conduit 15 is connected by a passage 40 with the pipe line on one side of the valve so that the conduit 15 will be balanced in respect of the pressures on the inside and outside thereof. The ends of a pair of chains 26 are connected respectively to the two jaws 24, 25 and when a screw 32 which abuts against the jaw 24 is advanced by rotation of a nut 33, the two jaws will move towards each other and collapse the conduit 15. Gaskets 20 are inserted between the wedges 16 and the end faces of the flanges on the valve casing.
