Abstract

703,396. Valves. HAMER, L. S. Feb. 23, 1950, No. 4683/50. Class 135 A gate valve A, Fig. 1, has its body 10 coupled to a pipe section B to clamp a plate C therebetween. The coupling means comprises a number of tie members 61, Fig. 4, having threaded ends 66 engaging nuts 62 carried by lugs 60 on the body and the pipe section. The central part 67 of each tie member may be polygonal for engagement by a suitable tool whereby the members are rotated to move the body and the section toward or away from each other. The plate C has a plain end 40 and an apertured end 41, either end being insertable between the body and the section when they are moved apart. The gate has seating surfaces 20, 21, the surface 21 co-acting with a sleeve 22 which, when withdrawn from the body, permits removal and insertion of the gate. When the gate is closed, the space between it and the plate can be vented by a cock connected to outlet 80a. A U-shaped sealing member 55 is arranged between the body and the section to prevent leakage when reversing the plate C. Specification 659,093 is referred to.
