Class 99(1) ' In a pipe coupling means a ball 2 is bored to receive a pipe 1, the ball 2 being secured on the latter by longitudinally compressing the pipe to bulge it outwardly to engage and lock the ball 2. The pipe 1 which passes through the hardened steel ball 2 is formed with two bulges 5, 6, the radii thereof being such that the outer surfaces are nipped by the tapering flutes 4, provided in the ends of the bore, when a locking nut 9 is tightened upon'a union 7; the latter has a seat for the ball 2, a corresponding seat in the locking nut being comprised by a thimble 10 which may be separate from or integral with the nut. A circlip .12 may be used to clamp the locking nut into the union threads. The ball may be split into two parts. Specification 770,424 is referred to.
