769,809. Automatic control systems for Washing-machines. GEHRIG, J. May 5, 1955 [May 7, 1954], No. 13049/55. 'Class 38 (4). In order to prevent excessive foam forming in the container 1 of a washing-machine, a diaphragm 3 moves against spring action, in response to a critical foam pressure in the space outside the washing drun 2, to close a switch 4 and thus energize a relay 5 to open an outlet valve 6 for the suds. As the liquid level in the container falls, a float-operated switch 7 energizes a second relay 8 to open a water inlet valve 9. The concentration of the suds is therefore decreased and the liquid level maintained constant: When the foam pressure drops below the critical value; both valves are reclosed and the machine operates with a lower suds concentration.
