Abstract

1,071,732. Dishwashing machines. W. HOLZER. May 15, 1964 [May 30, 1963], No. 20392/64. Heading A4F. [Also in Divisions D1 and F2] In a dishwashing machine the tub is first filled with water to a predetermined level, and a washing agent is then flushed into the tub by additional water introduced to the tub via a washing agent container. The flow of water to the tub is controlled by a valve 10 having an inlet passage 1 connectible alternatively to outlet passages 14 and 17, passage 14 being connected directly to the tub and passage 17 being connected to the tub via the washing agent container. In Fig 3, passage 17 is initially closed by a flap 15 under the bias of a bi-metallic spring 18. The flow of water to valve 10 is controlled by a solenoid valve, energization of which simultaneously energizes a heating coil 19 for spring 18, whereby after a predetermined amount of water flows via passage 14, flap 15 shifts to open outlet 17 and to close outlet 14, the solenoid valve being de-energized after a predetermined amount of water flows via passage 17. In a modification the flap is actuated by a linkage connected to a bellows which expands when a heating coil positioned therein is energized. In Fig. 5 the main flap valve is eliminated, water flowing through passage 14 past a collapsed bellows 25 and being prevented from flowing through passage 17 by a spring-biased flap 27. On energization of coil 19 in bellows 25, the latter expands to close passage 14, when the increased water pressure in passage 17 opens flap 27. In Fig. 6 a flap 15 is normally positioned centrally of passage 1 to allow equal flow through passages 14 and 17. On slight deflection of flap 15 to one side or the other by external means, the water pressure serves to continue said deflection until flap 15 closes the relevant passages 14 or 17.
