Abstract

769,794. Capacitors. BRITISH DIELECTRIC RESEARCH, Ltd. Aug. 5, 1955 [Aug. 5, 1954], No. 22831/54. Class 37. In an assembly comprising a plurality of parallel-connected self-healing capacitors, the conductors interconnecting the capacitors are arranged to include inductances of such value that, on the breakdown of any one capacitor, heavy discharge currents from the remaining capacitors are prevented from flowing to the first mentioned capacitor before the self-healing process at that capacitor has been completed. The inductances required are of small value and may be provided by connecting the capacitors to a common paralleling point by individual straight-wire conductors a few centimetres in length, Fig. 1 (not shown). In an alternative arrangement the capacitors are interconnected by loops 17 ; to provide a more compact structure the loops may be reduced to single turns as indicated at 17<SP>1</SP>. The individual capacitor units may be of wound type comprising metallized polystyrene or polyethylene-terephthalate film.
