Abstract

769,577. Labelling machines. TREPUR, Ltd. June 23, 1955 [July 6, 1954], No. 19682/54 Class 73. A machine for winding labels or ribbons around cylindrical objects comprises a downwardly inclined porous conveyer band 13 upon which the labels or ribbons are held by vacuum applied at 19 prior to winding, the article to be labelled being located and rotated in a V- shaped opening formed between the upper run of the band 13 and the lower run of another band 20. The labels and articles may be fed to the machine in timed relation, the labels being fed by bands 34 past a pressure roller 36 and gluing roller 35 and thence to the band 13. The machine frame 10 is of Y-shape with one branch carrying tensioning means 14 ... 18 for the upper roller 12 of band 13, and the other branch carrying the lower roller 12a and also the band 20 and associated mechanism. A chain 23 from an electric motor drives the upper roller 20b of the band 20 and a chain 22 from this roller drives the roller 12a. A variable speed gear is provided between the roller 12a and the shaft 25 of an adjustable throw arm 29 which is suitably connected to a sub-frame 21a carrying the lower roller 20a and tensioning device 21 of the band 20. In use, the variable gear is set in accordance with the size of the article to be labelled. The two bands, which are moving at the same speed, rotate the article and the label fed by the band 13 is ironed on to the article by the band 20. After the article has been labelled the arm 29 swings the frame 21a upwards about the shaft of the upper roller 20b thus enabling the article to be discharged.
