769,575. Securing injectors in coal seams &c. FERON, J. June 24, 1954 [June 26, 1953] No. 18492/54. Class 99(1) In a device for injecting a liquid into a coal seam &c. 2 comprising a resilient sleeve 14 which is expanded radially to secure the device in a hole 1 by applying liquid pressure to a piston 7 working in a cylinder 12 whereby pressure is applied to the ends of the sleeve, a conduit 16a for the supply of liquid is formed integral with the cylinder so as to avoid the use of a separate supply pipe and damage to the sleeve caused by exerting a pull on such a pipe. The conduit 16a may consist of a bore formed in the body of the cylinder which may have handles for its manipulation; in a modification, the conduit is in one of the handles which also carries a cock for controlling flow of the liquid. The sleeve is held between plates 6, 10, the former being secured to a nozzle tube 3 fixed to the piston 7 and the latter to a tube 9 fixed to the cylinder 12; part of the tube 9 forms a bearing for the tube 3. The piston has slots 20a to receive a resilient sealing ring 20, and a similar ring 13 in a cylinder cover bears against the tube 3, both rings being under pressure from the liquid.
